The Bethune Round Table (BRT) is a multidisciplinary meeting that aims to address the challenges and strategies of providing accessible, high-quality surgical care to vulnerable populations around the world. This conference encourages dialogue on global surgery from perspectives across diverse disciplines, including surgery, anesthesia, obstetrics, gynecology, as well as nursing and allied health. This year’s conference will see representation from Canada and our partner institutions in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

The theme of the 20th Bethune Round Table will be on Indigenous Peoples and Global Surgery. We wish to highlight the research and stories about strength and resilience, promotion of culture that are critical to improving in access to safe equitable surgical services The Bethune will feature research that recognizes cultural differences and the impacts of racism. We want to celebrate and highlight initiatives that improve survival, dignity and health of the Indigenous peoples of the world through better surgical care.

This event is organized by the Winnipeg Global Surgery Office at the University of Manitoba. The Winnipeg Global Surgery Office aims to facilitate partnerships, academic exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives to improve surgical access for under-serviced populations around the world.

Impacts of your Support:

$10,000: Supports two (2) surgeons and two (2) keynote speakers from a low-middle income country to share their clinical experiences and challenges at the conference, and help the global community learn how surgical care can be improved.

$5,000: Support two (2) surgeons from a low-middle income country to share their clinical experiences at the conference.

$2,500: Support one (1) surgeon from a low-middle income country to attend the conference.

$1,300: Cover production of conference-related (print and media) materials for our participants.

$500: Support two (2) Canadian resident surgeons or five (5) Canadian medical students in attending this conference to enhance their knowledge on improving surgical care.

*All sponsors will be acknowledged in the official conference program and on signs displayed throughout the meeting. You will also be invited to attend the conference banquet, to be held on the evening of Saturday, May 30th, 2020. There you will have the opportunity to meet the individuals that your generous donation has provided travel scholarships for.
